Abstract
AIM
To evaluate the prevalence of ocular manifestations of tuberculosis, early definitive diagnosis & treatment for the same.
METHODS & MATERIALS
Cross sectional prospective study was undertaken on 167 sputum positive pulmonary tuberculosis patient were included in this study.
Study period was from 2016 to till 2018
Inclusion criteria:
Patients with pulmonary TB.
Exclusion criteria:
HIV patients
Other systemic diseases
Ocular trauma
Ocular examination was done as follows:
Ocular history
Best corrected visual acuity
Slit lamp examination
Dilated fundus examination
Neuro ophthalmic examination
Orbit examination
Fundus fluorescein angiography
Patients with suspected lesions were referred for complete systemic & laboratory work up.
Other investigations were done as per clinical indication including CT/MRI Brain.
CONCLUSION
Mycobacterium tuberculosis can cause a wide spectrum of diseases in eye. Ocular screening is necessary in active pulmonary tuberculosis for early detection of ocular tuberculosis and to eliminate preventable blindness.
